Free online training on welfare reform

If you are pressed for time, but need to know about the changes that welfare reform will bring, our new, free online training will help you. 

Housing Rights Policy Officer, Stephen Orme, will take you through the basics of welfare reform.

The one hour training has four distinct parts.

Part 1: Introduction to Welfare Reform

This section introduces Universal Credit, the Benefit Cap and the Social Sector Size Criteria, explaining these key concepts and outlining the key timescales involved for Northern Ireland.

Part 2: Universal Credit

This section features an overview of the government’s flagship welfare reform project, Universal Credit. It explains what Universal Credit is, who is eligible, how it is calculated and the key timescales involved. It will also cover sanctions and what mitigations are in place for Northern Ireland.

Part 3: Benefit Cap

This section covers the key aspects of the Benefit Cap, including how it is administered and the mitigations which are in place for Northern Ireland. It also looks at the key timescales involved and some of the potential impact of the Benefit Cap.

Part 4: Social Sector Size Criteria

This section focuses on the 'Bedroom tax’, including the main elements involved in it, the potential implications for those affected as well as the key timescales involved.
