Volunteers Week 2022

The 38th Annual Volunteers week takes place this year 1-7 June, and is an opportunity for us to thank our wonderful volunteers and to recognise the contribution that they have made to Housing Rights and to those who use our services.

In the last four years alone, our volunteers have dedicated over 2800 hours of their time across all areas of the organisation, helping us toward our vision of everyone having a home.

The Housing Executive will deal with Housing Benefit and Rates Relief claims for homeowners from 1 June 2022. Land & Property Services will continue to deal with claims until then.

This change should make it easier for people to get help with their rates bill and is seen as the best use of resources.

Existing Housing Benefit claims from homeowners

LPS will transfer its caseload of open and ongoing claims to the Housing Executive on 1 June 2022.

A guarantor is someone who has agreed to pay rent if the tenant falls into arrears. They are also usually responsible for any damage to the property caused by the tenant.

In the next few weeks students will begin signing up to tenancies in the private rented sector for the next academic year. Most will have to provide a guarantor. It’s important to understand what that involves before signing any agreement.
