Housing Rights Director Janet Hunter has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list for her services to the community.

Janet has worked in housing for over 30 years and has been the Director of Housing Rights since 1994.  Her passion for housing, and her belief in the ability of housing to transform lives, has grown throughout her career.

Government bedroom tax report finds 78% of tenants run out of money by weekend

The Department for Work and Pensions has published a report evaluating the impact of the removal of the spare room subsidy or, in common terms, the implementation of the bedroom tax.   The research, carried out by Ipsos MORI and the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, has been carried out over a two year period.

Credit Union research shows high usage of moneylenders among NI public

Hike4HopeNI for mental health, housing and homelessness

Hike4HopeNI is a walk from Derry to Belfast, organised by Professor Paddy Gray and Professor Siobhan O’Neil. The aim of the walk is to raise money and awareness around mental health, suicide and homelessness. The walk is over 5 days from the 17th-21st December 2015. You can get involved with the fundraising efforts in different ways.

Registration fee refunds due to some landlords

The Department for Social Development has announced that almost 5,000 people will have fees paid under the Landlord Registration Scheme refunded.  This refund comes about as a result in a change in policy.  Where previously all joint owners of a property were required to register and pay the associated fee, now the fee will only be paid by one person.
