Housing Rights Director Janet Hunter has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list for her services to the community.
Janet has worked in housing for over 30 years and has been the Director of Housing Rights since 1994. Her passion for housing, and her belief in the ability of housing to transform lives, has grown throughout her career.
The Department for Work and Pensions has published a report evaluating the impact of the removal of the spare room subsidy or, in common terms, the implementation of the bedroom tax. At Housing Rights we feel that everyone should have access to specialist housing advice regardless of where they live in NI. Although our office is in Belfast, our services are available to people throughout Northern Ireland. We also work with 24 agencies across NI to provide guidance, support and assistance on housing cases as part of our Community Housing Advice Partnership.
Hike4HopeNI is a walk from Derry to Belfast, organised by Professor Paddy Gray and Professor Siobhan O’Neil. The aim of the walk is to raise money and awareness around mental health, suicide and homelessness. The walk is over 5 days from the 17th-21st December 2015. You can get involved with the fundraising efforts in different ways.
The Department for Social Development has announced that almost 5,000 people will have fees paid under the Landlord Registration Scheme refunded. This refund comes about as a result in a change in policy. Where previously all joint owners of a property were required to register and pay the associated fee, now the fee will only be paid by one person.
