We believe that prevention of homelessness is the best cure and we work tirelessly to keep people in their homes and help them with their housing problems. We’ve recently launched our Impact Report for 2018/2019 that highlights our work in the last year.
Renting Rights is a specialist support service provided by Housing Rights to assist young people aged 18-25 who are in housing need. Bethany Telford, our Renting Rights adviser has been helping young people to access or sustain their accommodation. Below we take a look at how she has helped her clients.
The Victoria Housing Estates (VHE) charity is consulting with its tenants on proposals to transfer ownership and management of VHE properties to Choice Housing. Housing Rights has been appointed as the Independent Tenant Adviser on this proposal and is available to provide impartial and independent advice to any VHE tenants who have questions about how the proposed transfer will impact them.
The newly appointed Minister for Communities Deirdre Hargey will regularly respond to questions from fellow MLAs. Below are a number of questions which have already been answered and which relate to housing and affordability issues.

To ask the Minister for Communities to outline her Departmental priorities for (i) 2020/21; and (ii) 2021/22.
Last week Housing Rights’ Policy Team were part of a delegation of Cliff Edge NI Coalition members who met last week with Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey, along with senior Department for Communities officials Colum Boyle and Anne McCleary.
Housing Rights is piloting a new mediation service to help resolve disputes between private tenants and their registered landlords. The service is funded by the Department for Communities and will provide an alternative way to resolve disputes in the sector.
The next meeting of the Housing Practitioners' Forum will be held on Thursday 13th February and will include presentations from the Housing Executive and Land & Property Services.
The Housing Executive is currently consulting on its planned Customer Support and Tenancy Sustainment Strategy 2019-2022. Staff from NIHE will deliver a presentation on the proposed strategy at Thursday's meeting and will answer questions on the strategy and the consultation process.
