Fit for the future? Housing Rights private rented sector summit - 17 November 2015

Housing Rights will be holding its annual conference on the future of private renting in Northern Ireland on Tuesday 17 November 2015 in Riddel Hall, Stranmillis Road, Belfast.

This one-day conference will open up debate on how to ensure the Northern Ireland private rented sector is fit for purpose.

The changing face of the private rented sector in NI

The private rented sector in Northern Ireland accounts for almost 20% of housing stock.  It is now much bigger than the social housing sector, accommodating growing numbers of low income and vulnerable households.

As part of the Housing Strategy 2012-17, Government has committed to “ensuring access to decent, affordable, sustainable homes across all tenures”. Within the private rented sector, this means reviewing and improving standards, supply and regulation.

The experts

We’ve invited a number of experts to examine how the private rented sector in Northern Ireland can improve standards, supply and the tenant / landlord relationship.  Confirmed to speak a the event so far we have;

  • Peter Kemp, University of Oxford
  • John Bryson, University of Warwick
  • Christine Liddell, University of Ulster

More speakers still to be confirmed.

Who should attend?

This event will be of great benefit to housing professionals, landlords, council workers, tenants and academics who want to know what changes we need to make locally to create a private rented sector in Northern Ireland that is fit for the future.
