New video resource for landlords

We’ve just published a new video guide for private landlords.  You can watch the video on our YouTube page or on our housingadviceNI website, which is funded by the NI Housing Executive.

Key responsibilities of landlords in Northern Ireland

The short clip sets out the key responsibilities of landlords in Northern Ireland and is a companion piece to our video guide for tenants, published last year by the NI Tenants’ Forum.  Landlords in Northern Ireland must

  • register their details with a central Registrar
  • ensure that properties meet all legal minimum standards of fitness and safety
  • protect tenants' deposits in one of the three approved schemes
  • respect a tenant's right to freedom from harassment and illegal eviction
  • give tenants a rent book, tenancy statement, inventory and prescribed information relating to their deposits

Although Housing Rights doesn’t provide advice directly to landlords, we offer a huge amount of information free of charge on our housingadviceNI website.
