Department keen to hear from tenants living in private rented sector
The Department for Social Development is keen to hear more from tenants who are currently renting a home from a private landlord or through a private agent in Northern Ireland. The Department is currently carrying out a comprehensive review of the private rented sector.
While briefing the Social Development Committee last week, Department officials said that they have been trying to encourage members of the public to get involved in the consultation process. Of the 85 responses received by the Department to the official consultation document, 45 were from landlords, agents and landord advisory bodies. Conscious of the high response rate from landlords and their representatives the Department has asked each of the deposit schemes operating in Northern Ireland to issue a questionnaire to tenants to ensure that tenants' views are also heard.
