028 9024 5640: Housing & Debt Helpline for Northern Ireland

Helping your clients to become more financially aware

Housing Rights Training Officer Bronagh McCulla talks about looking forward to taking our upcoming training course Made of Money – Financial Capability Skills.

The Made of Money course was developed by Quaker Social Action to help increase people’s knowledge about money.  Advice and information is sometimes not enough, and these workshops look to untangle feelings around money, including improved money management, changing shopping habits, avoiding high interest loans, reducing energy use and setting financial goals.

Over the 2 day course, participants will complete taste tests (with different priced items), enjoy a number of games which make learning about money fun and learn new terms which apply to everyone. The practical tips taught through the course give participants a great knowledge of how to budget, how to make their money stretch and how to deal with debt.

Increasing financial knowledge in Northern Ireland

It is clear that this course would be a valuable tool in helping people in Northern Ireland become more financially aware. On the 27 June (Belfast). I will be taking a 2 day Made of Money facilitator course for those who work with individuals or families on a low income.

This course will teach you to facilitate hands-on sessions on:

  • The building blocks of good money management: budgeting, savings, loans, interest and debt
  • How to communicate about money issues, and how to teach children about money and value
  • Increasing confidence and setting goals around finances

On completion of the course, you will have a set of resources that will give you everything you need to run Made of Money in your own workplace. These can be shared within your organisation.

What could the benefits be to your organisation?

By attending this course, you will be equipped to pass on financial skills to your clients, so they can take control of their financial future. At Housing Rights, we see many of the same problems arise daily and can see how delivering this course in certain organisations could transform peoples live. For example, the course could be run by:

  • Housing associations wanting to help their clients who face serious debt issues, including rent arrears.
  • Community groups who want to help households turn their finances around for good.
  • Money advice centres who want to tackle deeper money management problems beyond a repayment plan.

Attend the Made of Money training

You can book online for Made of Money - Financial Capability Skills course, or send an email with your details. I can also present this course at your premises if you have a larger group.

Made of Money direct to your clients

As well as the Made of Money course being delivered to your staff, I can also deliver it directly to your client base. If you have tenants who are facing arrears/debt or clients who could benefit from some money management/financial capabilities training, then get in touch and we can discuss some tailored packaged training. The interactive activities and learning will appeal to everyone, creating a safe and fun learning environment to suit all needs.
