Ministers issue invite to developer contributions consultation event

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland and Environment Minister Mark H Durkan are to host a consultation event on their proposals for developer contributions. The proposals would require developers to provide a proportion of newly proposed housing developments, over a certain threshold, as affordable housing. The consultation runs until 23 September 2014.

The consultation event will take place on Wednesday 10 September 2014 from 9.30am-12 noon at the Templeton Hotel, Templepatrick. It will be an opportunity to hear and discuss presentations on developer contributions from a variety of perspectives. Advance registration for the event is required.

Encouraging interested parties to attend the event, Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said: “It is essential in any consultation process that we achieve meaningful feedback from all interested stakeholders. This event will facilitate a balanced and informed debate on the potential of developer contributions as well as the challenges it may present. I would encourage those with an interest in this issue to register and make their views known.”

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: “I would encourage anyone interested in affordable housing, whether from the perspective of developers, planners, housing professionals or charitable bodies to consider attending this event. It is important that as many people as possible tell us what they think. This event will be a useful way for all views to be heard.”

If you would like to attend the consultation event you must register in advance,  numbers are limited. A registration form can be obtained by emailing the DSD or by telephoning 028 9082 9309.
