Latest Housing Bulletin released for October to December 2017
The Department for Communities has released the Northern Ireland Housing Bulletin for October to December 2017. The Bulletin highlights trends in several current policy issues such as homelessness, housing supply and house prices.
Homelessness
3,889 households presented as homeless to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive during October – December 2017. This is a decrease of 744 (16%) from the previous quarter (4,643).
The number of households accepted as full duty applicants for the quarter was 2,543, a decrease of 16.9% from the previous quarter, with the most common reason being that their accommodation was not reasonable.
Housing Supply
The total number of new dwelling starts was 1,391, a decrease of 21.1% on the same quarter in 2016. Of these new dwelling starts, 1315 were from the private sector and 76 were in the social sector.
There were 2,157 new dwelling completions in October – December 2017, a 23.1% increase on this quarter in 2016.
