Housing Rights & Advice NI jointly deliver Welfare Reform training for Housing Associations

Housing Rights has partnered with Advice NI to deliver training to housing associations on the impacts of Welfare Reform in Northern Ireland.

The training, organised with local housing associations including Fold, Helm, Choice and others as well as the Northern Ireland Federation for Housing Associations, was organised in advance of an open day for tenants held in Girdwood Community Hub on 27th June.

On 31st May and 24th June, we delivered training to around 40 staff from 9 housing associations, on Welfare Reform and how it will affect their tenants and operations. Topics included:

  • The introduction of Universal Credit;
  • The replacement of Disability Living Allowance with Personal Independence Payments;
  • The introduction of the Benefit Cap;
  • The welfare mitigations package for Northern Ireland.

Housing association staff appreciated the housing focus of the training, which covered the breadth of Welfare Reform and also demonstrated the specific impacts on housing associations and their tenants:

“Issue of Welfare Reform has been broken into very easily digested parts.”

“Found the training very informative and interesting.”
