The Department for Communities has released the Northern Ireland Housing Bulletin, for 1^st July – 30^th September 2016. The Bulletin demonstrates ongoing trends in several current policy issues, such as homelessness, housing supply and house prices.

Housing Rights is pleased to respond to the consultation on the Housing Executive’s draft Homelessness Strategy 2017-2022. The response is divided into two sections. The first section (points 1 to 5) focuses on each Objective specifically, and offers comment and suggestions on the actions contained under each Objective. The second section (point 6) considers the outcomes model of the Strategy, and makes several recommendations which aim to maximise the effectiveness of the outcomes model.

2016 Homeless Monitor: Northern Ireland must work together to prevent homelessness

The number of people accepted as homeless in Northern Ireland has increased by 13% since 2012/13. The key to tackling this is to work to prevent homelessness from happening in the first place, according to research published this week by Crisis and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

Prisoners become qualified to give Housing Advice

Housing Rights recently presented Ciaran and John*, currently in custody at HMP Magilligan, with certificates following their completion of a Housing Advice and Guidance qualification.

Housing Rights run a specialist housing advice and information service in prisons. In order to help meet the demand, we train Peer Prisoner Housing Advisers to help with initial stages of the service.
