Homelessness

Following the publication of the latest NI Housing Bulletin , Nicola McCrudden, Housing Rights Service Policy Manager, has digested the year end statistics and summarises her thoughts on the issue of supply and demand.

The Housing Executive has started writing to certain people on the social housing waiting list to tell them about privately rented housing that is available in their areas.

Smartmove Housing will manage these private tenancies.  Smartmove will provide initial support to new tenants and will make referrals to other agencies for tenants who need additional support to help manage and sustain their tenancy.

Last week, Inside Housing reported that officials in England are trying to reduce the number of incorrect decisions made by local authority housing and homelessness staff.   Officials are seeking an organisation that can provide advice, support and training to housing and homelessness staff.
