Don’t put your home in danger through debt this Christmas
Local charity Housing Rights Service (HRS) is urging people not to forget about paying their mortgage or rent over the Christmas period.
Ursula Toner, Advice Services Manager with HRS, said: “Everybody wants to ensure their family has a great Christmas and it’s so easy to overspend. Paying your rent or mortgage should always be a priority; no one wants to start the New Year faced with losing their home.”
Ms Toner continued: “Debt can creep up on you we would advise anyone who is concerned about being able to pay their rent or mortgage to get in touch with their lender or landlord and seek free independent advice.”
Housing Rights Service operates a dedicated Mortgage Advice Service on behalf of the Department for Social Development. The charity also offers a tenants’ debt advice service for a number of housing associations.
Online budgeting resources are available at www.housingadviceni.org, HRS’s public advice site that is funded by NIHE.
