Bedroom Tax welfare mitigations will continue indefinitely

A recent article in the Belfast Telegraph raised concerns that welfare protections put in place to cover “bedroom tax” may end in March 2023.

The article states concerns have been raised that "urgent intervention is needed to protect thousands of households here from potentially being hit with the bedroom tax".

Housing Rights approached the Department for Communities for clarification on this concern. They have confirmed that this is not the case.

Clarification from Department for Communities

Legislation was passed earlier this year to extend bedroom tax mitigation payments indefinitely.

The Department has confirmed that it will continue to make bedroom tax mitigation payments to people who are eligible under the legislation.
